in pieces, for class 2 shall be given in rolls, for classes 3, 4, 5, and 6 shall be given in pounds.
4.1.3.3 Sampling for examination. Unless otherwise specified (see 6.2), there shall be
50 samples from the lot specified in 4.1.3.2.
4.1.3.4 Classification of defects. For examination purposes, defects shall be classified as
shown in table VI.

4.1.4 Conformance inspection. From each lot which has passed the visual and
dimensional characteristics specified in table VI, a representative sample of 5 shall be selected,
unless otherwise specified (see 6.2). Conformance inspection shall also include the examinations
and tests listed in table V as defined by the contract.
4.2 Order of inspection. Operating environment test shall be performed first, followed by
the remaining verifications in any sequence.
4.3 Verification methods. Acceptable verification methods included in this section are
visual inspection and measurement, sample tests, full-scale demonstration tests, simulation,
modeling, engineering evaluation, component properties analysis, and similar to
previously-approved or previously-qualified designs.
4.4 Verification alternatives. The manufacturer may propose alternative test methods,
techniques, or equipment, including the application of statistical process control, tool control, or
cost effective sampling procedures to verify performance. See the contract for alternatives that
replace verification methods required by this specification.
